Adelaide Hills after a bush fire

Adelaide Hills bush fire painting heather castles

This is another painting I’ve been working on recently (acrylic on canvas | 75cm x 100cm.) I’m not quite finished yet but am happy with it so far. When we lived in Adelaide, South Australia, an extensive bushfire went through near our home. We drove through the hills once it was settled and everything was black. But a few short weeks later, tiny green plants had shot up from the blackened ground, transforming it to a lush carpet of green, and it was beautiful seeing new life spring up after the devastating fire had passed through. Bush fires are part of nature’s cycle in South Australia, many plants needing the fire to crack open the seeds before they will sprout.
