It was a nice surprise having the finished printed copy of What’s Fair? arrive in the post. I had the fun of illustrating this math book for Scholastic Education’s Math Place collection and am very pleased with how it has turned out. I especially enjoy illustrating kids in situations that are down-to-earth, like playing lego, working in messy classrooms and playing outside.
You can see in the photo above the steps in the process of illustrating this story. From the initial manuscript and doodles, to more worked out and revised sketches in the digital layout, to final artwork and printed book.
Illustrations were done in water colour with a little graphite pencil line work. These are some snapshots of my favourite moments in the illustrations :
